Have You Heard of The Garage Door Effect?

When we think about home aesthetics, we often focus on elements like paint colors and architectural details. However, one aspect that significantly contributes to a home's front elevation is often overlooked: the garage door. Considered a utilitarian feature, garage doors play a vital role in shaping the overall appearance of a home's front elevation. In our first blog post, we’re going to walk you through a few of our homes and garage door selections - as well as provide a few things to keep in mind when selecting a garage door for your home!

Quick shoutout to Skylift Garage Doors for helping bring our visions to life - if we can draw it on a napkin, they can design it for us!

Our Homes

1400 Rock Dam

Inspired by Alys Beach, this stunning home features a white metal roof and intricate stucco detailing. If you’ve ever heard of, or visited Alys Beach, then you know that all of the homes are characterized by their elegant white stucco facades, reminiscent of Mediterranean influences. Each home boasts clean lines, crisp angles, and a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living spaces, exuding a sense of timeless sophistication. It was important to us when designing 1400 Rock Dam, that we portrayed this style in the correct way. In this home in particular, a 3-stall garage jutted out in a “separate wing,” making this area a focal point that greatly contributed to the front elevation. The Haas American Tradition Series garage doors we selected for this home take the elegance of handcrafted wooden carriage house doors and combine it with modern technology and materials, perfectly matching the home in its timeless, yet high-tech nature.

1640 Estate Valley

With this transitional/contemporary style home, you can see how garage doors like the ones we used on 1400 Rock Dam would take away from the contemporary front elevation of the home. For 1640 Estate Valley, we elected for the Amarr Vista contemporary set of doors that provide a modern and sleek look through the clean lines of the extruded aluminum combined with the glass panels. The glass we selected provides an abundance of natural light inside of the garage during the day, and privacy at night - while still allowing light to shine through to the exterior, lighting up the left side of the home! These doors can be combined with the glass, color and design options of your choice, and are hand assembled to order!

115 Crestview

115 Crestview is a modern home that portrays sleek, clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. Unlike other homes in which we intended for the garage doors to stand out and make a statement, for this home, we wanted them to subtly and seamlessly complement the front elevation. Using the Amarr Lincoln garage doors, we were able to accomplish this, creating a clean and uncluttered look that paired perfectly with the rectangular nature of this home. This simple, yet beautiful, flush garage door ensures a modern yet simple design that is sure to be timeless. Quick fun fact: these doors are manufactured in Mocksville, North Carolina!

822 Pebblebrook

This home was truly unlike any other home we had ever built before. Taking on an English Storybook style, 822 Pebblebrook looks (and sounds) like something out of a fairytale! Although you might not be able to tell at first glance, this home utilizes the same series of garage doors as those at 1400 Rock Dam. The front elevation on this home has many front-facing windows - because of this, we opted for a garage door with no windows to keep things simple. This door was designed with a distinctive composite overlay, providing the look of traditional wooden garage doors without the hassle of ongoing maintenance and staining. This overlay is made from sustainable reclaimed wood fiber and a thermoplastic polymer that resists rot, decay, and organic growth.

Quick Facts

Design Diversity

Gone are the days when garage doors were limited to standard, uninspired designs. Today, homeowners have an array of options to choose from, ranging from traditional to contemporary styles. Whether you prefer the classic charm of carriage house doors or the sleek sophistication of modern designs, there's a garage door to suit every architectural theme and personal taste.

Material Matters

Garage doors are available in a variety of materials, each offering its own unique set of benefits and aesthetic appeal. Wood doors exude warmth and character, while steel doors offer durability and low maintenance. Aluminum doors are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, and glass doors can infuse natural light into the garage space, creating an inviting ambiance.

Color and Finish

The color and finish of your garage door can greatly influence its visual impact. Opting for a hue that complements the exterior palette of your home can create a cohesive look that enhances its overall appeal. From subtle neutrals to bold statement colors, the possibilities are endless. Additionally, experimenting with textured finishes like wood grain or matte surfaces can add depth and visual interest to your garage door.

Hardware and Accents

Details matter when it comes to garage door design. Adding decorative hardware such as handles, hinges, and decorative straps can elevate the aesthetic appeal of your garage door, infusing it with charm and personality. These small accents can mimic the style of your home's architecture, tying the look together seamlessly.

Integrated Technology

In today's digital age, garage doors are more than just functional barriers; they're equipped with advanced technology for added convenience and security. From smart openers that can be controlled remotely via smartphone apps to integrated keypad entry systems, modern garage door technology offers homeowners peace of mind and accessibility like never before.
