Since 1996, Raleigh Custom Homes has built a reputation as a leader in luxury home construction across the Triangle. Each year, we complete approximately 17 high-end residences ranging from $3 million to over $9 million. Our homes are known for blending timeless architectural design with advanced technology, thoughtful functionality, and sustainable building practices.

But for us, the work has always been about more than building houses. Every detail we design and every decision we make is guided by one question: How will this feel to live in?

Our Story

We saw how traditional building processes could feel overwhelming, fragmented, and unnecessarily complicated. So we built our company around doing things differently:

For most homes, we manage every detail of the build — from planning and timelines to design and selections — creating a seamless experience from start to finish. We call these our builder-curated homes. For clients who want to start from the ground up, we also take on a limited number of client-tailored homes each year.

By accepting only two to three of these projects annually, this balance allows us to give every home the attention it deserves while offering clients two distinct paths to a custom-quality home.

Whether you want to be deeply involved in every decision or prefer to step into a home we’ve already thoughtfully brought to life, the experience remains the same: organized, personal, and carefully managed.

Timothy Thompson

Founder/president

The son of a Michigan building contractor, Tim grew up around job sites, blueprints, and the rhythms of construction. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Michigan State University in 1988 and later received his MBA from Duke University in 1994.

Before leading Raleigh Custom Homes, Tim built a successful career in the utilities and communications industries, working in sales and marketing for two international utility measurement manufacturers. His work took him across the globe, where he was exposed to forward-thinking building technologies, systems, and efficiencies that now influence the way homes are built for Raleigh Custom Homes clients.

With decades of experience in luxury home construction and a background that blends technical knowledge, business leadership, and hands-on building insight, Tim brings a thoughtful, systems-driven approach to every project.
